Here is a great find! It is an original Civil War Era Fore & Aft hat. It still has its original Feathers and the maker is clearly visible. Joe Raynes & Co. Lowell, Mass. (In business from the early 1800's until the mid 1860's if l remember correctly). The silk liner only has fragile fragments left. The hat itself is a pretty large 7 3/8. This makes a wonderful display piece and is pretty hard to find. Enjoy!
