Description
From the sellerOffered is an original WWII 36th Infantry Division patch. On September 9, 1943, the 36th made the initial amphibious assault at Salerno, Italy—the first Allied landing on mainland Europe. It fought in bloody engagements at San Pietro and the Rapido River, led the breakout from Anzio, and was the first Allied unit to enter Rome. It later spearheaded the invasion of Southern France and pushed into Germany and Austria. Casualties: Spent 227 days in combat with over 27,000 casualties (including over 3,000 killed in action).
