From the sellerThis image is an original Vanity Fair caricature from March 5, 1870, depicting the prominent English barrister Serjeant William Ballantine. The tiny black patch on the very top of his wig represents the vestigial coif, a distinction unique to the ancient and now-defunct rank of Serjeant-at-Law.
