Description
From the sellerCommemorative medallion of the sinking of the U.S.S. Somer during the Mexican-American War (December 8, 1846). The Somer was sunk by a sudden storm that capsized the ship off the Mexican coast near Vera Cruz. The U.S.S. Somer suffered a mutiny earlier in its career that included executions. The only time in US Naval history. The medallion measures 2 1/4 inches across and roughly 1/8 in thickness. It maybe made of brass.
