Description

From the seller
The Stigmaria is a fossilized root of ancient Lycopods, also known as "Coal Age Lycopods," which lived between 280-350 million years ago. Modern day WV was swampland and shallow seas. This promoted accelerated growth in vegetation. These giant lycopods needed extensive root systems for support and nutrient absorption. This root fossil shows circular scars of the many rootlets that grew outward into swamps. The fossil is roughly 2.5”x 6” and 1” thick. Great collector piece or an attractive conversation piece on a desktop.
