Description

From the seller
Real photo post card, early post office and pottery, Succasunna, Roxbury Township, Morris County, New Jersey, ca1900. Good view of early small commercial area of Succasunna (town name meaning "Place of Black Rock" - Lenni-Lenape Tribe). The town was first settled in the mid-1700s and established as both an agrarian and mining village, which was rich in iron ore deposits. The post office was established in 1808 and apparently the town's name "transitioned" from Suckasunny to Succasunna in 1888. The card is unposted and has holes in four corners, possibly to enable the owner to hang or post the post cards for display rather than in album. The card has some fading and light wear along edges & corners. Domestic buyer pays $5.50 S&H.
