Description
From the seller….. It took some searching on the net to identify the artist, Kurtz, who signed this antique, bronze sculpture of a Native American Indian Dancer. Benjamin Turner Kurtz (1899-1966) was a Baltimore artist known for portrait and figure sculptures as well as teaching. If you search the net you can find a few example of his bronze sculpture, but you will not find another example of the nude Dancing Indian in this auction. The base measures 2 ½” by 3” and is signed on the back edge, Roman Bronze Works. The other bronze sculptures we found on the net were also signed by this foundry. Overall this sculpture measures 9 ½” tall by 7 ½” wide y 5” from front to back. … The Dancing Native American is holding a shield on his left arm and is holding a long thin rope? In his right hand. The shape is original, but we are not exactly sure what it is.
