Rare Circa 1850 J. Valentine 'Intemperance' Envelope State 1 Excellent Engraving

On the right are shown the prosperity and happiness arising from Temperance as indicated by the fountain and stream, and Thrift, hinted at by the ‘Savings Bank’ seen through the open window. Rare and excellent example of J. Valentine’s ‘Intemperance’ Envelope State 1 Circa 1850, which characterizes alcohol as the ‘Bane of Society’, and the envelope’s Hogarthian illustrations depict the difference between intoxication and sobriety.
