Description
From the seller…… This auction is for an original copy of "The Connecticut Almanack, For the Year of Our Lord, 1781." The title page states that the astronomical parts were prepared by the Professor of Mathematics at Yale College, and printed and sold by Hudson and Goodwin of Hartford in 1780. Hudson and Goodwin were among the most important printers and publishers in Connecticut during the late 18th century and are best known for publishing the Connecticut Courant. During this period, the astronomical calculations used in the Connecticut Almanac series have been attributed to Rev. Nehemiah Strong (1729-1807), Yale's first Professor of Mathematics and Natural Philosophy. There is a paragraph at the bottom of the front page which reads, "Astronomical Parts by Professor of Mathematics, in Yale College.
