This lot is check #1491 from the Pacific Insurance Company of San Francisco from the 1870s. This is an unused check drawn on the account at the Bank of California headquartered in San Francisco and signed by the company's president. It has an orange two cent revenue stamp imprinted on the front. The Pacific Insurance Company was a major insurer on the West Coast prior to the San Francisco in 1906. The check has some foxing on the right edge from water damage.. See photo for condition and details.
