He has written: "Artis Isaac Greetings from Los Angeles Tom Bradley". In 1969, he ran for Mayor and garnered a plurality of votes in a multi-candidate field. In the runoff election, incumbent Mayor Sam Yorty played the race card, alleging that Bradley would open up the city to Black Nationalists.
