From the sellerWeight 7.6 lbs approx Composition: This specimen consists of a dense bed of purple macrocrystalline quartz (amethyst) points grown inside a hollow rock cavity. Matrix Layers: Around the outer edges, you can see the clear mineral transition zones typical of geodes: a outer basalt or limestone matrix shell, a white quartz or agate banding layer, and the inner purple crystalline core. Color Development: The characteristic violet hue comes from trace amounts of iron impurities irradiated by natural background radiation within the earth over millions of years
