THESE EARLY HEARTH CHAIRS WERE MADE TO BE PLACED INTO THE HEARTH DURING THE WINTER TO KEEP WARM. THEY HAVE FULL SIZE BACKS BUT THE SEATS ARE SLIGHTLY LOWER TO SIT NEAR THE COALS. THIS IS THE MOST INTACT EXAMPLE OF A 17TH CENTURY TURNED SPINDLE SEAT HEARTH CHAIR I HAVE OWNED IN OVER 40 YEARS AND ALSO ONE OF THE BEST I HAVE SEEN ANYWHERE.
