Description
From the sellerThis beautiful example of an early Kapingamarangi sailing canoe will be the center of conversation where ever it is, While smaller carved canoes are quite common, one that is 36” long or longer are usually only seen in museums or private collections. This was purchased in Kapingamarangi in the 1960’s directly from the carver by my father and part of a large family collection. After 55+ years of being on display in our house we have decided to let go of some of the larger items in our collection go to others who may have memories and similar interests in Micronesian handicrafts from long ago! Please examine the pictures carefully, some of the wood used has cracked but overall the canoe is very solid and no parts are missing.
