Description

From the seller
…… Measuring 11” in diameter by 4 ½” tall this mid-19th century Chinese Export Porcelain Bowl has a painting of the Brigantine Victoria right in the center. On the outside of the bow is a bold beautiful cobalt blue & gold gilt painting of flowers on the other side is the presentation, “Success attend Capt. Walter & Phoebe Robb of Stromness.” … The Brigantine Victoria refers to a historical colonial vessel built in New South Wales in 1840. This 200-ton, square-rigged ship was deployed by the fledgling British administration to suppress intertribal conflicts in New Zealand between the Tauranga’s Ngai Te Rangi and the Te Arawa people at Maketu. … Captain Walter Tyrie Robb (1831-1868) was not the captain of the ship but a Dunnville Naval Brigade officer from Scotland.
