This is a steel engraving plate, used for printing all types of paper products, such as currency, bond, stock certificates and much more. These plates are all engraved by hand, and it took quite a bit of time to complete each one. If a mistake was made, it had to be scrapped and started all over again. Today, this is virtually a dead art. Quite rare. .
