This is a wool Saltillo from the 1930s. Very tightly woven wool with a linen warp ending with 9" fringes at each end. The colors are very vibrant with lots of dramatic black. The center medallion is a traditional Mexican design used since the classic years of the 19th century. The condition is very fine and crisp, folded and stored for many years. There are a few tiny moth bites visible when held to the light. There is one hole, (pictured), where the weft was eaten away but the warp threads are still intact. Very decorative!, See pics.
