Description
From the seller“Good luck from Ireland “ souvenir. Left thumb chipped. The printed mark reads “AN TSEAPAIN TIR ANBHÁNTA” (some letters are partially obscured). This is Irish (Gaeilge) rather than a manufacturer’s mark. The phrase translates approximately to “Japan – Land of the Rising Sun.” It was commonly used on souvenirs imported from Japan for the Irish market during the mid-20th century. So, rather than being made in Ireland, your figurine was most likely: * Made in Japan for export to Ireland. * Produced in the 1950s to early 1970s, when Japan manufactured many ceramic souvenirs for countries around the world. * Sold as an Irish tourist souvenir with the “Good Luck From Ireland” inscription.
