Description
From the sellerOffered are four antique hand carders used for preparing wool fibers for spinning. They are wooden paddles with a surface of fine, bent wire teeth. They are used in pairs with the process involving combing raw wool between the two paddles to align the fibers and remove tangles. This process is called carding and was a common household task in the 18th and 19th centuries before spinning the wool into yarn. Some companies such as Whittemore made these paddles. One has a partially legible mark on the back, the others have has no legible markings. See photos.
