Fine Mito Water Dragon Iron Tsuba, katana, wakizashi, tanto, Edo period This fine Mito school dragon tsuba has a beautiful three dimensional structure which came to highlight the school towards the end of the Edo period. It has exceptionally fine carving, in both kebori and takabori. While some of the gilt (nunome) has worn off and there is a bit of rust (primarily on the ura), careful cleanup/restoration should increase the value by three to five times. The tsuba measures approximately 70mm x 72mm in an oval Maru gata form. In width it varies from 3mm in the base plate to approximately 7mm in the high relief carving.
