John Purroy Mitchel (July 19, 1879 – July 6, 1918) was the 96thmayor of New York, in office from 1914 to 1917. EQUITABLE BUILDING IN LOWER MANHATTAN. IT IS A SMALLSTERLING SILVER SOUVENIER TROWEL GIVEN TO A FEW DIGNITARIES THAT WITNESSED THE LAYING OF THE CORNERSTONE OF THE BUILDING ON APRIL 29, 1914 BYMAYOR PURROY MITCHEL, WHO WAS KNOWN AS "THE BOY MAYOR".
