From the sellerOf 630 thousand minted, over 274 thousand were used as planchets for 5 centimos coins in 1942. For Costa Rica, this resulted in the devaluation of their currency, the change from 90% silver coins to those with 50% silver (or no silver at all), and the counterstamping of most of their coinage to double the face value of the old coins.
