Description

From the seller
A beautiful pair of 19th century Japanese Imari bowls. The larger bowl is profusely decorated in underglaze blue and rust red, green, yellow and brown. There are alternating panels of flying birds, ocean waves and fan elements on the interior and panels of fish and foliage on the exterior. The bowl measures 8 1/2" in diameter and 3 3/4" deep at the rim. The smaller bowl is in the same color palette with alternating panels of foliage. It measures 6" in diameter and 1 3/4" deep at the rim. The larger bowl has two small rim chips and some flaking of the rust red paint. The smaller bowl seems to have a glazed rim chip (in the making?). The decoration of the larger bowl is really spectacular and both display well.
