From the sellerYou pull out the CDROM drive and insert this caddy with a secondary, external HDD screwed on, and it has an IDE interface, giving you the equivalent of an external drive, housed in your laptop. I have no older Dells to test it out in, so, your guess is as good as mine, though I am quite sure this is what it is.
