Delicate vintage apron/pinafore, pale pink & lace, handmade

I have had this hanging on a hook for awhile and I cannot quite figure out how it was worn. I have always loved how dainty and feminine it seemed. Maybe you know more than I do. It is rather narrow and has long ties but it seems awkward to cross it behind your back and tie in front. Definitely seems adult size though. It is very delicate and sheer with little rosebuds. It has been handmade on a sewing machine. Probably made by my friend's great aunt in Michigan who was a total pioneer and a great one for sewing of all kinds. There is one obvious soiled spot on the side lace (in photo) some other tiny marks. I have not washed this item. Non smoking home.
