Built between 1934 and 1942. LITTORIO’s were originally conceived to counter the French DUNKERQUE class battlecruisers, The first two were laid down in October, 1934, and completed in May, 1940. ROMA and IMPERO were laid down in 1938, while only ROMA was completed; in June, 1942.
