From the seller* The front shows Desislava, a medieval Bulgarian noblewoman connected with the famous Boyana Church near Sofia. The portrait is based on a fresco from the church. * The back features the Boyana Church, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its medieval frescoes. * It was issued by the Bulgarian National Bank during a period of major political and economic change after the end of communist rule. * The currency was the “third lev” system used before Bulgaria revalued its money in 1999.
