From the seller1937 KGVI CORONATION SET. The Bookers had owned sugar plantations in the colony since the early 19thcentury; by the end of the century they owned a majority of them; and by 1950owned all but three. Under the British, cane planting expanded to richer coastal lands, with greater coastline protection.
