From the sellerRed banded calcite is a variety of the mineral calcite (calcium carbonate, CaCO3) characterized by alternating layers or bands of red and white (or colorless) material. It commonly displays the rhombohedral cleavage typical of calcite, a vitreous to pearly luster on cleavage surfaces, and a Mohs hardness of about 3, making it relatively soft and easy to carve or polish.
