From the sellerFrench Soldier holding the French Tricolor flag, Russian soldier depicting the distinct green or brown uniform, British uniform tradional Khaki, Belgian soldier dark blue uniform, American soldier light tan or Khaki, Serbian soldier dark blue or grey and the Italian soldier on the right. The date 1914 to 1918 denotes the duration of the war. To the right. a vertical stack of flags represents the various Allied powers. These textiles called, Stichery Under Fire", were often crafted by women who remaided in their homes close to the front lines. This piece is a fine example of a household linen or sampler used for both survival and commemoration. Similiar one made into a drawstring bag was featured in the Smithsonian National Museum of American History
