Description
From the sellerThis is a antique Edo period iron Samurai sword guard. It has open work called Sukashi and this is an authentic iron Katana sword guard. The decoration on the surface is of natural elements with a grapevine motif . The vine is full of grapes as it cascades down toward the ground. On the ground is a squirrel with small inlay accents of gold. The grapevine also has small gold inlaid accents. This motif symbolizes abundance and longevity. Also word play gives respect to a warriors discipline. The tsuba has the same Decoration on both sides with the grapes forming a scolloped edge. Condition: excellent for age and use. Measurements: 2 3/4 inches diameter approximately. Weight: 3.4 Origin: Japanese Circa: 1800
