Description
From the sellerThis Alaskan umiak was given to my mother in 1933 by an unsuccessful suitor. He was a construction worker who operated a bulldozer in Alaska, the son of a family friend. She turned him down, but kept the present. I have been told by people with first hand knowledge of Alaska that this is caribou hide, scraped very thin. It is 28 inches long and 5 1/4 inches wide. And has been gathering dust for too long. It needs a cleaning— the leather was originally almost white. The stitching is quite remarkable— very even and precise.
