Antique Hand Carved Wooden Animal Amulet With Prayer Hole - Neat Example

This is an antique wooden amulet from the Swat Valley of the Kohistan Region in Northern Pakistan. The function of the amulet was two-fold: to protect the animals and serve as a brand to identify the owner. This amulet has an extra hole that the owner would place a written prayer or a special stone to offer up to the Gods. The hole would then be sealed with a peg or wax. The photos show one side sealed while the other is open.
