Description
From the seller…… Handmade and painted on aluminum, this circa 1930 or 40s Maritime Folk Art Sign reads “Port of Heart’s Desire” and depicts a black silhouette of a sailing Galleon at sea. The reverse side features silhouettes of five sailors walking in profile. We found that the famous American poet John Steven McGroarty (1862–1944) wrote the poem “The Port O’ Heart’s Desire” in 1910, which may have inspired this sign. Measuring 12” tall by 18” wide, this 2-side aluminum sign has an added aluminum border wrapped around the edges. The words, images, and border are all hand-painted black, and as you can see, there is some surface wear to this paint.
