It is marked "GERMANY" on the back of the hinged side. Originally for most likely for snuff, but also lovely for trinkets or to put that special ring inside, Talk about beautiful presentation! The richly detailed Repoussé design is just extraordinary featuring what looks like a proposal scene in the woods with very ornate work all around including a bow on the top.
