…… This auction is for an elegant pair of antique, 19th-century French Opera Glasses by La Ville Paris. Lemaire Fabt. Paris (Jacques Lemaire) was one of the premier French optical manufacturers of the 19th and early 20th centuries, producing and supplying theater binoculars to various retailers, jewelers, and specialty opticians, often branding them with location marks such as "La Ville - Paris.” … These Aesthetic Opera Glasses are constructed of inlaid mother-of-pearl. In our photographs, you can see that the lenses are marked “La Ville Paris.” They measure 2 ½” tall by 3 ¾” long, with two ½” diameter eye lenses, and two 1 ¼” diameter objective lenses. The mother-of-pearl panels retain a beautiful natural luster, and the optics remain clear.
