Description

From the seller
This silver medal weighs 30 grams exactly and is 42 mm in diameter. It commemorates the treaty between the US and Mexico over the disputed land of El Chazimal. The dispute started in the 1860s due to a southward shifting of the Rio Grande, which acted as a natural national border in this area. The US incorporated it as part of El Paso, Texas. Finally, likely due to Cold War pressures, then-U.S. president, John F. Kennedy, suggested a possible resolution to the dispute and negotiations were initiated. While the dispute formally settled in January 1964 with Mexican President Adolfo Mateos and US President Lyndon Johnson finalizing, JFK, Benito Juárez and Adolfo Mateo are credited in this medal as well.
