…… This Rare, Early 19th Century, French Colonial carved Coquilla Nut "Bugbear" Snuff Box is one of the best example you will found online. This type of Snuff Box were original carved by soldiers, prisoners of war, or sailors during long sea voyages. This small, finely hand-carved, 3 1/4" long by 1 3/4" wid Coquilla Nut features a creature with human features and large horns at the top. On the front it depicts an 18th century groom and his bride ringing a bell in the center, below the name “H. Aragon” carved across a banner above them. On the opposite side is an early portrait of a young woman with curled hair and three large feathers in her large hat. …… As you can see, there are a few tight shinkagehairlines, and the very tip at the end of the cover has been missing for many years.
