From the seller
Savage Mining Company check issued in 1899 to the Comstock Tunnel Company, which was the reincorporation of the Sutro Tunnel. Possibly for ore royalties or some other use of the tunnel. Signed by HM Gorham who was an important mining supt. in the Comstock in the 1890s (and who wrote a book about that time called "My Memories of the Comstock.") Portion missing near stamp. See photos.
