Description
From the sellerThis is a Carson City Savings Bank Bill of Exchange. These bills were to be paid by Messr George Opdyke & Co. of New York. George Opdyke was an entrepreneur and the 76th Mayor of New York City during the American Civil War. Bills of exchange were generally used to send funds over long distances, through hazardous conditions. This type of bill saw its greatest use during the turbulent years of the late 1800s, when much of the western United States was still in its wild face, and the transportation of valuables, such as currency, was not ideal. NOTE: The photo is one at random. Spectacular quality.
