This historically significant album is inscribed to Hebron C. Steere and dated 1861, with a handwritten note stating: “This book was carried all through the Civil War.”. Historical military records support the Civil War association, identifying Hebron C. Steere as a Union officer in the 1st Rhode Island Cavalry, commissioned Second Lieutenant in 1863 and later promoted to First Lieutenant in 1865.
