Description
From the seller…… This auction is for a finely executed, early 19th-century, Gouache Watercolor Painting depicting a three-masted, square-rigged American merchant ship under full sail. Signed with the initials "G.R." and dated 1830 in the lower right corner, this painting was clearly executed by a talented artist, but we were unable to identify them. The ship flies an American flag at the stern, while a long red, white, and blue commissioning or signal pennant flies from the mainmast …… Measuring 11" by 19" by sight, this early 19th-century Watercolor is sealed under glass in a vintage 18" by 25" gilded frame with a black mat accented by gold fillets. As you can see, the paper displays light, even toning consistent with its age, along with a couple of tiny, light foxing spots.
