Description
From the sellerIdentification Origin: These were "necessity" tokens (monnaies de nécessité) or wage tokens used by the Aniche mining company in Northern France. Date: 1820. Obverse: Features "M.D", the year "1820," a pick and a rivelaine (a type of mining pick) in a saltire (crossed) pattern, and is encircled by a foliage wreath. Reverse: Features the value "30" over "S" (sols), a small decorative pattern (grenetis) inside the "0" of "30," and a representation of a mining basket (couffin) above the "30," all surrounded by a foliage wreath. Specifications: It is a copper, milled token with a diameter of approximately 30 mm and a weight of about 14 g.
