Francis Bradbury was born December 14, 1766 in Falmouth (now Portland), Maine, the son of Theophilus and Sarah (Jones) Bradbury. Francis Bradbury was a sea captain before settling in Vergennes in 1809 where he secured a perpetual lease of waterpower in Vergennes.
