Description

From the seller
…… When we first received this early Terracotta Earthenware Jar we were unsure of its origins. With the help of Google we are sure this 11 ½” tall by 9” diameter Olive Jar is a Spanish Colonial Botijas Terracotta Jar. This commonly used container would carry Olive Oil, Wine and Water across the Spanish Empire. This early jar has a surface like an old stoneware jug. The surface is heavily worn from years of use, but Botljas till is intact. You can see a couple of folds in the pottery, but there are no cracks or any restorations. The inside has a light green glaze so it could carry liquid. … We have listed this late 17th or very early 18th century Spanish Colonial Olive Jar without a reserve.
