Description
From the seller……According to our consignor, the Knife in this auction is an artifact found during an archaeological dig in Yorkshire, England. This Medieval Knife dates from the late 12th to early 13th century and features a hand-wrought iron or steel blade with a whittle-tang that extends into the bone handle and secured with a small pin, paired with the carved anthropomorphic (human or king's head) bone terminal. Carved with precise, geometric, linear cross-hatching, the king’s head is depicted with large bulbous eyes below a prominent browline that extends into a straight nose, the mouth has curved lips between two incised lines, with the hint of a beard below, and his crown is represented by a series of crenellations at the top. …This Ancient Knife measures 9 ½” long with a 4 ½” blade.
